Frequently asked questions

Adopting

WHERE ARE THE ADOPTION EVENTS?

Most of our adoption events are held at various PetSmart, PetCo or Tractor Supply stores and other locations. (Farmers Markets, Puppy Yoga, Special events).  Check the our FaceBook page and the events calendar on this site for upcoming events.

WHAT KIND OF DOGS DO YOU HAVE?

We usually rely on what we've been told when the dogs are processed for intake. We often do not know who the parents are. Even if we have the mom, we never know what breed the dad was. Typically the breed is obvious, and will be a mix,  but the only true way would be to have them DNA tested.

I SAW A PUPPY POSTED ON YOUR PAGE, IS IT AVAILABLE?

Most puppies that we have available for adoption will be at the next adoption event. Puppies go fast, so it might be good to arrive 15 – 30 minutes before the start time. We cannot guarantee any specific puppies will be there or available - there are a lot of factors that have to be considered before a puppy goes up for adoption.

HOW DO I ADOPT?

Once you have met a pup you want to adopt at the event, you will fill out an adoption contract. A volunteer will go over everything with you including the spay/neuter policy, vaccine schedule, food they are eating, etc. We do not allow folks to adopt a puppy they have never met or hold dogs until the potential adopter is available to see them.  We also do not transport dogs to other states.

HOW MUCH IS THE ADOPTION FEE?

All adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccines, rabies, and microchip.

  • Puppies 8 weeks to 6 months start at $500
  • Puppies 6 months to 1 year start at $400
  • 1 year to 3 years start at $300
  • 3 years and up start at $200
  • Ranch dogs have special pricing!
  • Discounts are offered to Veterans and First Responders

We do not have a payment plans

WHAT FOOD ARE THEY EATING?

Many of our dogs are eating Hill's Science Diet. You don't have to keep them on the same food. As long as it is a high-quality puppy/dog food it will be fine. We recommend Authority or Simply Nourish from PetSmart or the Kirkland brand from Costco. Please don't feed them Puppy Chow or Pedigree Puppy.

ARE THEY VACCINATED?

All puppies will have started their vaccines before they are adopted. However, full immunity requires a series of four shots which will take about four months to complete. This means that dogs can't go on walks, to dog parks, PetSmart, etc. until they have immunity. Vaccines are done by rescue volunteers and we will try to find a volunteer in your area of town to complete the vaccines. However, we can't guarantee it. Vaccines can always be completed between 1 - 3 pm Tuesday through Saturday at the Paw Wash.

Frequently asked Questions

Fostering

WHAT DO I NEED TO TO DO BECOME A FOSTER?

  • Complete a foster contract and read through this ENTIRE DOCUMENT to ensure you, and everyone in your household, understand the commitment you are making to both the pet and Arf-Anage Dog Rescue.
  • Send in pictures of your home and yard to ensure a safe environment for your foster.
  • Attend a foster intake event or watch the Arf-Anage Facebook page for dogs that need a foster.
  • Be sure to have a valid AZ driver’s license or state ID that has a current address; a picture of your ID will be taken to be included in your foster file.
  • You must have ability to transport your foster to and from Vet appointments and adoptions events.

WHAT DO I NEED TO HAVE IN ORDER TO FOSTER?

  • Arf-Anage will provide any items you need to successfully foster. The rescue will provide food, puppy pads, and medications.
  • We have a limited number of crates and pens available to borrow. If you have a small room or an area you can enclose, that will work fine. Make sure the pups are not in an area that is cold or drafty.
  • Please let us know what items you need and feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

HOW LONG DO I FOSTER?

  • The commitment for fostering is typically 2-3 weeks. Sometimes longer depending on the age of the puppy.
  • Younger puppies will need to be fostered in pairs or small groups. Older pups may be fostered as singles, the rescue will determine which pups can go as singles.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY ARE READY TO BE ADOPTED?

You have few options when your foster is ready for adoption. You can…

  • Adopt the dog yourself - Foster Fails are the best! Please note, we do not provide discounts for fosters who adopt.
  • Adopt the dog to someone you know – adopter will complete the required paperwork and submit payment.
  • Post the dog on social media, including the Arf-Anage FaceBook, Instagram  and NextDoor.
  • Conduct private meet and greet sessions with potential adopters. Once you have selected someone you think is a good fit let us know.
  • Fosters are required to bring their dogs to adoption events at least twice a month.  Fosters will be notified of upcoming events via email. Events are also posted on the events calendar on this web site, as well as posted on the Arf-Anage FaceBook page.
  • Join the Foster community! As a foster, you will be invited  to the Arf-Anage Volunteers and Fosters FaceBook Page. You may also request to be added to the  FaceBook Foster chat groups.

Frequently Asked Questions

Surrenders

We understand how difficult a surrender situation can be and we truly appreciate your efforts to find a safe and loving outcome for your dog.

As a foster based rescue, Arf-Anage does not have a central facility and can only intake dogs when there are available foster homes.

In most cases, the best we can do is put you on a waiting list while a suitable foster is found or you may consider fostering your dog for us.

As with other surrender situations, as a foster based rescue, Arf-Anage does not have a central facility and can only intake dogs when there are available foster homes.

In most cases, the best we can do is put you on a waiting list while a suitable foster is found or you may consider fostering your dog for us. If we have not found a foster within 30-60 days , feel free to contact other rescues in the area.
